The /e/OS is a smartphone operating system created by the /e/ Foundation (a French non-profit). It is based on Android but removes all Google services to enhance user privacy. The OS includes alternative services (an ethical search engine, email, cloud storage, etc.) and a curated set of open-source apps for everyday use. Notably, /e/OS shows in-app privacy ratings and blocks trackers/ads by default. It remains compatible with standard Android apps while storing user data locally whenever possible. The foundation touts that /e/OS is fully auditable (“open-source” and verified by research) and aims to let users escape digital surveillance.
