Mastodon is a non-profit, open-source social networking platform launched by Eugen Rochko in 2016. It is decentralized: anyone can run a server (instance) that federates with others via the ActivityPub protocol. Mastodon provides microblogging and messaging features similar to Twitter, but emphasizes user control and privacy – it never shows ads or sells user data.
