Offen (Fair Web Analytics) is an open-source project for privacy-respecting web analytics, initially supported by the NLnet Foundation. It is developed to be run on users’ own servers (self-hosted) so that no third-party data is involved. Offen encrypts data end-to-end and uses only first-party cookies. Importantly, tracking is opt-in: visitors must give explicit consent, and they have the right to access or delete their own data. The platform focuses on ethical data collection and offers real-time metrics, multi-site support, and team sharing for the administrator. All personally identifying data is avoided by default and data is kept for a limited time (6 months). Offen is available under a free, open license, and aims to create a fair alternative to traditional analytics by design.
